Gluten-Free Recipes from Gluten-Free Girl

For months on end, I cooked and cooked. Every night, I experimented with gluten-free recipes, tried new ingredients, and flung in spices with wild abandon. After a time,  I realized I was doing more than just cooking (and taking photographs of the food).

Incrementally, I was creating a gluten-free cookbook, a stable of recipes based on seasonality, local foods, fresh tastes, and the most vibrant sensations I could find. Try some. See what you think. Let us know.

I say "us" because after April of 2006, all the recipes on this site were created (or edited) by Daniel Ahern, a talented professional chef, the man who became my husband. These recipes work.

Every recipe here is gluten-free. They could be adapted fairly easily to accommodate other food allergies. The first priority in these recipes, however, is the glorious dance of food. These will have your toes tapping.

Finding this site of yours has made me very excited. I actually have Multiple Sclerosis (diagnosed a little over two years ago at age 25), not Celiac. The no meds route is what I've decided on and that includes going gluten free (through lots of research and conferring with my ND I came up with a game plan that I find works when I can actually stick to it). I find it difficult to stick to sometimes simply because my reactions aren't immediate and direct. I'm hoping that your recipes will help me to dive in head first and get a little more hands on. Thanks Shauna!

Oh! I am so glad I found this. I can't wait to make some of those dishes, esp the bok choy & goat cheese.

My favorite pizza crust that I've found so far is in "The Gluten Free Gourmet Cooks Comfort Food" by Bette Hagman. Seasoned Pizza Crust (p193). It's great - plus it makes two crusts - you can eat one now, and freeze the other for later. Great for when you have to work late and need a quick meal. Make homemade sauce, and put your favorite toppings (canadian bacon and pineapple or a veggie pizza when I want a healthier option). Very good. I missed pizza before we found this.

Ok, that's it, I am going to empty out the exercise room, put in another kitchen, make every one of these, get fat, and be happy!

Dear Shauna, your recipes sound fantastic, but I can't get them off of the site. I keep getting the top picture printing over the
top of them.. What am I doing wrong?
P.S. I'm obviously new at this!!

Shauna,

Again, many thanks to you. Your recipes are a God-send. They break up the monotony of my gluten-free cookbooks.

Can I ask you to post the recipe for the three-cheese macaroni and cheese with the grated truffles on top that you mentioned that you and Chef served for a books signing?

I am looking to relocate to the greater Seattle area from Ketchikan--talk about rain. 14 feet a year!

Any suggestions on where I might dine?

Just wanted to thank you for your concentration on this subject. I see that you have built quite an array of recipes. I will have to take the time to come back and get more info. I am not celiac...I however have noticed lately that I do have an intolerance towards gluten. I will be slowly making dietary changes. Hubby has to be a key participant...since of course...we do have to share our kitchen in harmony ;0)
Again, Thank you Shauna for your dedication. All the best, Claudia

just made my first loaf of Gluten-free Crusty Boule. WOW! It tasted great. Thanks. It turned out a little flat, can't make a sandwich out of it but in time I'll figure it out. I was wondering if you can tell me if the Bette Hagman Taste of Honey Millet bread recipe can be adapted to this recipe. I am a big fan of millet flour and since you are the experts I thought you might know. Thanks again for sharing all you know.
